September 16, 2009 - European Bike Week 2009, Europe’s biggest Harley-Davidson party, transformed the tiny village of Faak in the Austrian province of Carinthia into the scene of an awesome festival of everything Harley-Davidson related.
The centre of the 12th Anniversary celebration of Europe’s greatest open free biker festival was the Harley village in Faak, where tens of thousands of motorbike enthusiasts gathered for a celebration of all things two-wheeled and called ‘Harley’. This year there were more traders, more entertainment areas, and plenty of special features to keep festival-goers happy.
In addition to a line-up of bands from across Europe, the event culminated in The Custom Bike Show, an affiliate of the prestigious World Championship of Custom Bike Building in which bikes were judged in the following categories:
ANTIQUE : all Harley-Davidson models, pre-Evolution with stock frame and stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
THREE-WHEELER : All Harley-Davidson Trike or Sidecar models with stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
LADIES OF HARLEY : All Harley-Davidson models with stock engine case and stock frame. All other modifications allowed.
SPORTSTER : all Sportster models with stock frame and stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
BIG TWIN : all Big Twin models with stock frame and stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
WATER-COOLED : All VR models with stock frame and stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
BUELL : all Buell models with stock frame and stock engine case. All other modifications allowed.
CUSTOM : Must have Harley-Davidson engine, with stock or aftermarket frame.
RADICAL CUSTOM : All bikes with stock or aftermarket engines and frames
The winner of the Best In Show award will have their bike shipped to the USA for the World Championship of Custom Bike Building finals in Sturgis, Michigan.
Harley Tour
For those of you who missed the event in Faak, there is another opportunity to get up close and personal with Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Harley-Davidson UK is in the middle of its Judgment Days truck tour, which brings the bikes around the country and gives members of the public a chance to test drive these legendary machines.
The tour rolls into the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon for the 26th-27th September. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to ride a Harley, you can book a test drive in advance and take a spin on performance models such as the XL883N, the V-Rod Muscle or the V-Rod Dragster.
